Starting with 2nd year. These mono prints were the result of a week long workshop with Morgan Doyle ( www.morgandoyle.com) which culminated in an end of week group show from participating students. The second image was selected to take part in the Limerick Printmaker's Open Submission Show '08 (http://www.irishpressreleases.ie/2008/06/19/open-submission-print-show-2008/)
Not long after the Morgan Doyle workshop John Beattie visited for a week long drawing workshop, which also ended in a student show at the end of the week. The piece I created (sorry some of my photo's have been lost in a laptop cross-over!!) was a performative drawing. Using make up ( foundation, eyeliner, eyeshadow, lipstick, lip gloss, lip liner, and blusher) attached to a long stick I drew simultaneously on 7 separate a4 sheets a simple face motif. On the centre the drawing the image remained clear but the drawing changed and became less controlled the further the make up got from the centre. After each drawing I lay out 7 new a4 sheets, and moved the make up along the stick one place. The end result was 49 a4 sheets that hung on a wall demonstrating the control and loss of control over a drawing.
After the success of this piece I continued to work with make up, this time to create stone lithos. I used my own face rolled across the stone as the motif for these. The original prints were monotone on paper, but I experimented with colour and materials, resulting in four colour prints on used face wipes. These face wipes became the central focus of a larger piece, a security blanket the panels of which were all used face wipes. This piece was shown in the student lead show "Way Out" in September of '08
Don't I look proud? :)
This leads us into 3rd year and my three months abroad studying in Nantes, France. http://www.erba-nantes.fr/ Whilst there I joined a class which was visual arts in response to a given topic, in this case "the Forbidden" My work abroad quickly merged my with my previous project, the persuit of perfection, and resulted in photographic works, and sculptural pieces.
The last image (Penis Rase) was a embroidered pieces taken from an image found on the internet ( I had began looking at the idea of the forbidden within perfection, the slightly sordid lesser known side) It was attached to a doily when finished and exhibited recently at the Grey Cabinet Show in Jan 10 ( http://thegreycabinet.blogspot.com/) And that...pretty much brings us up to 4th year and most recent works...but I think I shall leave that for another entry...
